Sunday the 25th turned out very Sunny but with a chill and cold wind.

A good group met at Kingston bridge with 2 new members , actually some friends of mine from a group I ride with on Friday's.

Off through Bushy park and Hampton, Upper Halfford and onto Nottcuts at Laleham for 11's. Where there was already a group tucking into 11's. There were some late arrivals due to late night Barn dancing the previous night! Notably Irene who cycled all the way from Staines and still arrived late! Jeff covered in sweat arrived just before the off.

Up through Staines (where Janice added some additional clothing!) and Wraysbury to Datchet and the Ditton road lead us to Mayors farm road along side the M4(a few mutterings from some meant I made a mental note not to use this road in future). On to Colnbrook and left into Sutton lane and then a left right into Sutton lane, Hollow hill lane and across Langley park road into Trenches lane and a pit stop for the leader while the group went off the wrong way. (snigger) Back on course up Billet lane and a sharp left lead us into the grounds of Langley park for a photo call by the stables and a video, I think, as we road the long drive that leads to the Uxbridge road. This was crossed at speed and into Black park road, Rowley lane an right into Framewood road. At Fulmer village we turned right into Alderbourne lane lane and a small climb up to Pinewood Road, a small detour through an estate lead us to the Crooked Billet for lunch in glorious sunshine. Food was good and were quickly served, needless to say some had sandwiches.

Then off down Wood Lane, a nice descent down to Iver and Langely Park Road, Iver High Street and right into old Mill Lane, Packet Boat Lane, right into Cowley High Street and left into Falling Lane then some off road through Stockley Park and onto the Grand Union Canal to Southall and Norwood greed, through Osterley Park to afternoon tea at the Wyevale Garden Centre, Osterley. Then a long cycle home for me, about a mile and a half with loose handlebars.

My first lead for C&M and I enjoyed the day, barely 50 miles for me.

The race,first of the season's classics is 180 miles and takes in the coast road for much of the race with diversions inland to tackle a hill or two.

Mark Cavendish was dropped 100km from the finish and described it as "the worst day of my career".

Steve's official party from North Cheam numbered but four. However 18 reached an Ockham Bites bathed in warm sunshine (nb places exposed to the fresh northerly breeze were noticeably cooler).

Sixteen (no Alan, no Bob) took a brief detour onto Wisley aerodrome(the word's not dead just yet!) then continued to Ripley. We were now on the Olympic road race course in reverse until a left at the Seven Stars. After heavily trafficed Send and Old Woking, relief came in the form of Westfield, Sutton Green and Jacob's Well. Escaping from the A320 as soon as possible, we re-approached it after a brief study of some of Guildford's social housing. Unexpectedly on Mothers' Day there was room at the Row Barge but it was only 1215; roast of the day  (child or adult portion) being the choice. Forecast rain amounted to no more than a few drops during lunch so passed unnoticed by the ten non-members of  the Sandwich Brigade.

Unusually alongside Stoke Park and through Burpham's estates got us to the A3 cycle path. After a right  at Burnt Common and Hungry Hill, the surprise was the ascent of a rather greasy Green Lane West. After the Drift climb and the long drag to the Douglas Haig, there was the Vineries for our final stop. Home just after five and 50 modest miles.
